The Shanghai Data Exchange Center officially opened in Jing’an district, Shanghai, on April 1. As the only formally invited 4A agency VIP guest speaker, Phil Teeman, Group Managing Director of Dentsu Aegis Network China, joined the event and delivered a keynote address on the following Shanghai Jing’an International Big Data Forum. Other DAN senior managements in attendance include Tsuyoshi Suganami, President of Amplifi China & CEO of Dentsu Media Greater China; Shunsuke Araga, CEO Office Director of DAN China; Chris Jin, Chief Information Officer of DAN China and Lawrence Wan, Amnet China Managing Director.
The operator of the exchange center, Shanghai Data Exchange Corp. (referred to as “Shanghai Data Exchange”) is a state-controlled mixed ownership enterprise established upon approval by Shanghai People’s Government, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy & Information and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. Establishment is jointly initiated by China Telecommunications Corporation and Shanghai Zamplus Technology Development Co., Ltd., etc with registered capital of RMB 200 million. Bank of Shanghai also announced a credit of 2 billion yuan (US$309 million) to the Shanghai Data Exchange Corp.
Currently, most data in China are isolated within different organizations and therefore cannot be shared without a third-party platform. The center makes them connected and useful in the economy and social development. All data traded at the center will be safeguarded to ensure the protection of privacy. Functioning as the country’s first and only online data exchange marketplace, Shanghai Data Exchange Center enables auction-based data buying, cross-institutional cooperation and integrated application of business data & government data. It is located in “Shibei High-Tech Park”, where over 150 big data and cloud computing firms are sited.
Phil Teeman, Group Managing Director of Dentsu Aegis Network China, in the speech session, showcased DAN’s best practices in “Big Data + Marketing Application”, exploring how the group is turning an ever-increasing quantity of data into successful actionable insights to help DAN’s clients improve key business outcomes. According to Phil, unlocking the potential of big data for customer targeting is the next step in revolutionizing the digital marketing industry, and Amnet, DAN’s programmatic buying unit, is already on its fast track toward shaping next-generation big data ecosystem. With a focus on delivering better performing media, Amnet provides programmatic buying and audience management solutions leveraging the power of Amnet Audience Center, a proprietary data management platform for storing, sorting, and gleaning business insights from big data.
According to the officials, 70% of BDU members will be selling in Shanghai Big Data Exchange Center, along with many new state-owned and private enterprises in China. Amnet is in discussion with the organization on extending a privileged access with this new data exchange market. The launch of Shanghai Big Data Center will generate a significant opportunity for Amnet to expand its strategic data partnership and further advance capabilities of data application.
